FSC® Certification
ANRO is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC®), an international nonprofit organization
devoted to the responsible management of the world’s forests. As an FSC certified commercial
printer, ANRO can assure our clients that the paper used in an FSC specified project is traceable to
trees that were responsibly grown and harvested from a certified forest.
ANRO’s certification enables our clients to specify FSC® certified papers and gives you the opportunity
to use both the Forest Stewardship Council and Rainforest Alliance logos in your own marketing and printed
collateral produced on those papers.

ANRO Ink
The standard inks and coatings used by ANRO are environmentally friendly as well. All of our 4-
color offset process inks and varnishes are vegetable based and have a VOC content of less than
2%. Aqueous (water-based) coatings are our preferred coating for offset printing and have been
an ANRO standard for a decade.
Additionally, the ink used in ANRO’s HP Indigo digital presses is one of the most efficient supplies
available in the digital press market. HP Indigo presses use liquid inks which are applied in layers
that are thinner than what is possible using dry toners, giving HP Indigo presses a level of true offset
quality that is unmatched by other technologies, and reducing the amount of ink required. These inks
comply with California’s Proposition 65, and do not contain any hazardous air pollutants established
by the US Federal Clean Air Act.
Recycling
ANRO Waste Management and Recycling Program, which was instituted several decades ago, has
grown to include ten different categories of materials including paper, printing plates, ink, packaging,
and office and production consumables. We’ve also instituted corporate purchasing practices that
mandate the purchase of materials with recycled content whenever possible.
ANRO’s waste minimization efforts include strategies to reduce waste at the source as well. Digital
prepress and computer-to-plate innovations eliminated entire categories of consumables. Automatic
on-press and equipment parts washing systems assist by first minimizing the amount required,
then reclaiming and reusing necessary solvents. Even shop rags (a not so insignificant item in most
pressrooms) are laundered and reused.
Blinding Improvements
ANRO has made several improvements to our new facility to greatly increase its energy efficiency.
A lightweight, non-hazardous polyurethane foam roof system was installed over the production and
warehouse areas, boosting the insulation R-value from 12.6 to 22. The warehouse area also saw
jump in R-value from 1.28 to 16.1 when the outside walls were filled with biodegradable, nonhazardous
foam insulation. Additionally, three new HVAC units were equipped with Energy Recovery
Units to reclaim heat generated by our manufacturing equipment, and our six new electrical
transformers are very highly rated for energy efficiency.
All new lighting systems in our facility utilize efficient electronic ballasts that reduce power
consumption and heat output. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are used extensively in the office
areas and for night time and emergency lighting. All new exit lights use LED illumination, and
skylights were installed in the warehouse additions and entrance vestibule to utilize natural light
during daylight hours. Further efficiencies are obtained from a new building automation system that
uses variable volume and temperature sensors that monitor and automatically control the heating
and air conditioning.
Hand in Hand
Technology has been a helping hand in our environmental efforts for many years, simultaneously boosting productivity and reducing energy
and our consumption of other resources. ANRO’s online and other digital communication services are leveraged by our clients to the same
effect.
Custom online print management; print-on-demand and web-to-print programs; personalized landing pages, dynamic email and cross-media
campaigns, and online ordering, file transfer and proofing applications are highly effective yet resource-friendly marketing and
communication tools that help us both make a difference, benefiting all stakeholders including future generations.
Judicious use of ANRO’s broad range of capabilities – from highly targeted, personalized direct mail, PURLs, micro websites, and dynamic
email to small and large offset print runs – lets your organization tailor the resources consumed to the exact needs of your specific print
and digital communication project.
