ANRO GETS GREENER
ANRO was recently awarded the Forest Stewardship Council’s chain-of-custody certification, the latest achievement in the company’s ongoing commitment to preserving the environment.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to the responsible management of the world’s forests. Through conservation efforts and certification programs, the FSC seeks to eliminate habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous peoples, and violence against people and wildlife that often accompanies logging activities.
Chain-of-custody refers to each pair of hands involved in the path from forest to the finished printed product, including all stages of processing, manufacturing and distribution. As an FSC certified commercial printer, ANRO can assure their clients that the paper used in an FSC specified project is traceable to trees that were responsibly grown and harvested from a certified forest.
ANRO’s certification permits their clients to specify FSC certified papers and gives them the opportunity to use both the Forest Stewardship Council and Rainforest Alliance logos in their own marketing and printed collateral produced on those papers. If a printed piece bears the FSC logo, consumers can be certain that the trees used to make the paper were not taken from a threatened ecosystem, and for every tree used, at least one was replanted.
There are a number of different FSC certified papers available to ANRO customers, in a variety of types, grades, and weights to meet the needs of any print project.
FSC chain-of-custody certification is one of many examples of ANRO’s long-standing commitment to ecologically responsible practices. ANRO instituted a formal Waste Management and Recycling program several decades ago, which has grown to include ten different categories of materials, including paper, printing plates, ink, packaging, and office and production consumables.
For the past decade, ANRO has recycled more than 90% of their total waste, and has instituted corporate purchasing practices that mandate the purchase of materials with recycled content whenever possible.
